On Saturday, 14th April 2007, a colourful scene and much activity greeted visitors to the Avis Dam.
The second Dragon Boat Race was held at the Avis Dam, organized by the Namibia Canoe Federation.

Greenspace and its objective
Greenspace is a voluntary non-profit, non-governmental organisation. Its main objective is to facilitate the development and maintenance of a system of urban open spaces which offers Windhoek residents and visitors diverse natural recreation opportunities and to preserve as far as possible, the aesthetically pleasing nature of the city.

Die Windhoeker Stadtverwaltung gab bekannt, dass die Schleusen des
Avis-Damm von 8 Uhr an geöffnet werden, um den Wasserstand um zwei
Meter zu verringern. Aus diesem Grund sei der Damm für Besucher heute
gesperrt.

ONE of the Avis Dam sluice gates was opened again yesterday because debris
had prevented it from closing after it was opened on Sunday morning.

Windhoek - Mit der Anstellung eines 4. Sicherheitsbeamten sowie dem Aufstellen eines zweiten Hochsitzes sind die Sicherheitsvorkehrungen für Besucher des Avis-Damms in Windhoek erneut verstärkt worden. ,,Jetzt sind wir voll abgesichert", sagte Christoph Hillebrand, Vorstandsmitglied der Organisation Greenspace/Freunde des Avis-Damms, der AZ.

Visitors to Avis Dam to pay security levy
Visitors to Avis Dam on the outskirts of
Windhoek will have to pay a levy towards the security of the area from
January.
